A friend reached out to me about bugs & oils to deter bugs from attacking her when she’s at the beach. I know citronella helps with bugs because of the candies we used to burn growing up when I was camping.
I hadn’t really thought about making a DIY bug spray, but I know the chemicals in bug spray & know id rather choose a plant-based or non-toxic option.
I looked into my oily pocket reference (the best thing ever) & found some other oils known to help with bug bites & went to work!
A few tips -
• make sure your witch hazel is free of fragrance
• you can’t mess it up; try the oils you have on hand or do your research and pick the ones you think are best. Try a different combo each time until you find the perfect one (but we think this is about as perfect as it gets)
• we add our oils first, then fill to the top with equal parts witch hazel & water
• you’ll have to shake/swirl the bottle before use because the oils can separate from the water
DIY BUG SPRAY
15-20 drops of both citronella & lemongrass
3-8 drops of eucalyptus, tea tree & rosemary
2-3 drops of lavender

Fill the 2 oz glass bottle with equal parts witch hazel & water.
Spray before you go outside in the summer or wherever the bugs are around you.
What’s in your bug spray? Is it all this plant based goodness?
xoxo,
Hil
