DIY Toner

So I’m just going to start out by being totally honest, I’ve never been big into skin care or makeup or any of that. Growing up, I only wore mascara (and not even until HS) and I washed my face with that pink grapefruit face wash through college. It wasn’t until I came off of the pill that I really started taking care of my face (& that was at 27!).

When I started my first face care regimen, it came with this thing called toner. Now being the newb that I am, I had to Google what this even was. I slowly started using it & actually really liked it. I was amazed how much dirt was still on my face after I “cleaned” or “washed” it. This toner went the extra step.

When I made the step to non-toxic skin care, I needed a new toner option. That’s where this little blend comes in. I use this every night & morning! I will add one suggestion, if you have the ART toner, sub that in instead of this Witch Hazel! It’s a game changer! But this is something easy for everyone because all of these oils come in the starter kit!

A few tips -⁣

• make sure your witch hazel is free of fragrance ⁣

• we add our oils first, then fill to the top with witch hazel⁣

• research oils that are great for your skin (like Blue Tansy) if you have a wide variety of oils

I added 10-15 drops (those suckers can come out fast) of each oil and then filled to the top with toner!

What did you add to your toner? Let me know! I am always looking to try something new!⁣

Low Tox Dry Shampoo

My hair is my nemesis. Y’all – like I live in South Florida (hello, humidity) & I have thick & wavy hair. I was the queen of the diffuser in High School & gave it up for mostly straight hair in college when I was in Virginia. Now that I’m back home & also hitting the gym almost every morning, I had to get my hair under control.

Sooooo I am the queen of dry shampoo. Like really – story time real quick. We have a new male principal at our school this year. He is a little bit older (like his daughter is in her late 20’s like me) and wasn’t really into the dry shampoo vibes that I was throwing out. I was telling him how long I have gone between washing my hair & now he will joke about “how longs it been since you washed your hair?” & I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud of anything in my life (jokes, obvi)

One day I was talking to a friend about the switch to non-toxic shampoo. I was talking about how I hoped the detox process was quick because my hair was having a hard time detoxing. She asked me about the other products I was using…oh you mean like regular dry shampoo & salon leave in conditioner? You mean my hair can’t detox if I’m using non-toxic shampoo, but then filling my hair with toxic products right out of the shower.

Enter my non-toxic hair recipes that I will share in the coming days that I have used as I switch. Now I will say that I can’t guarantee everything works the same for you, because I have thick, wavy hair, but I HIGHLY recommend a non-toxic hair regimen if possible. It’s worth it.

This is my dry shampoo recipe that I adapted from the Young Living website. You’re gonna wanna save this one for sure!

Essential Oil Dry Shampoo1/4 cup arrowroot powder (can use cornstarch) 1 tablespoon baking soda 2 drops cedarwood essential oil 2 drops tea tree essential oil (Sometimes I also add in 2 drops of rosemary essential oil)

Mix it all together & add to your hair at night before you go to bed for a fresh, not greasy look the next morning

Application tip: use a makeup brush to dab it on your roots or put the whole mixture into a salt shaker & shake that thing babeeee

Why did I choose these oils?

Cedarwood: helps get the tangles out & restores thinning hair

Tea Tree: promotes a healthy scalp

Mermaid Hair Strengthening Spray

Mermaid hairs – vital for hair growth & strength. Like I said before, long hair & braids & lots of hot tools to tame this frizzy, thick mane means that I need to treat my hair like the mermaid (AKA QUEEN) that it is & fuel it with all the oils for hair strength & health.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to use this mermaid hair spray each night before bed, & I coat my hair up if I am showering the next morning. Orrrr you can put it in your wet hair before you blow dry it.

Tip: Substitute water with salt water! It’ll give you a natural, beachy look if that’s what you’re going for, sis!

Why did I choose these oils?

Roesmary: supports strong, quick growing hair with shine & volume

Lavender: helps minimalize hair loss & keeps hair shiny

Cedarwood: helps get the tangles out & restores thinning hair

If you try it, let me know by tagging me on Instagram or replying to this blog post! I love when y’all make the things I share!

Healthy Harvest “Brownie” Bars RECIPE

Gab is bringing us a seasonal goodie today that you are going to LOVE! We’re thinking all things pumpkin, pecan, apples, leaves, sweaters and boots. We think you’ll love this healthier version of traditional brownies fall-ified with pumpkin, pecans and cinnamon. The recipe calls for the brownies to be slightly underbaked for a more ooey-gooey texture – make sure to cool them completely before serving so they hold their shape! They are fluffy yet chewy, moist and slightly sweet. Have a few friends over, pour the hot chocolate and serve these up! Then take a pic, tag us on Instagram and let us know what you think!

Healthy Harvest “Brownie” Bars RECIPE:

Dry Ingredients 1 3/4 cups rolled oats (grind rolled oats about three minutes in a food processor until a flour forms)

1/2 cup pecans (pulse in food processor to crumbs)

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp sea salt

1/2 tsp cinnamon

Wet Ingredients 1 1/2 cups (about one can) pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

3 flax eggs (3 tbs ground flax and 9 tbs water – let sit five minutes)

3/4-1 cup maple syrup (depending on how sweet you’d like them!)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional: 1/2 dark chocolate bar broken into chunks or one cup chocolate chips

Directions: Make the flax “eggs” in a bowl. Combine all dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add the flax egg and all other wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined. Pour the mixture into an 8×8 pan. Bake at 350 for 30 mins. Cool completely before serving.

Sleepy Roller for all the zzzzz’s

This is part of the January series on roller bottles & essential oils. One of the best part of roller bottles is that they are a quick & easy way to access your essential oils on the go. You can mix up the perfect combo for various circumstances & roll it right onto your skin as needed. You just need the oils that you’d like for the roller, a carrier oil, and a roller bottle.

Honestly, the first oil I ever bought was from a friend after hearing her talk about how it helped her sleep. I wasn’t sure about using oils & I didn’t even have a diffuse, but I couldn’t turn down the desire for deeper sleep.

Y’all, I TREASURE my sleep. I am the queen of 8+ hours a night. I’m in bed by 9 mots week nights & 10 on most weekends (I know, I keep the hours of your grandma), but I’m up at 5 each morning to hit the gym so these hours work for me. I’ve never had trouble sleeping necessarily, but sometimes I struggle to fall asleep. In an effort to get better sleep, I ordered a lavender oil from a friend, ordered a diffuser on amazon & started diffusing it every evening before bed.

Eventually, I was sold on oils & bought my starter kit. Once I did that, I knew not on,y did I want to diffuse oils, but I wanted a roller bottle to roll on my feet at night & to bring with me on vacation. So I set out to find a wonderful combo of sleep oils that work best for me & this is what I came up with.

In a 10mL roller bottle, I combined lavender, cedarwood, stress away, and sleepyize. I did 20 drops of lavender and cedarwood and 10 drops of stress away & sleepyize. once I added all of the oils (using a funnel) to the roller bottle, I topped it off with fractionated coconut oil (could also use jojoba oil) until it was full. Then just pop the top back on & you’re on your way to sleep heaven.

So like I said, I roll this on the bottom of my feet every night before bed. It has lasted me SO long & I don’t ever wanna go without it. Some other oils that you could try for sleep are Roman Chamomile & Bergamot. These are two that I’ll add to my diffuser at night on a rotating basis.

Ready for the best sleep of your life (only kinda kidding)?! Let me know what you think!
